Why buy organic food?
Pesticides. In conventional farming pesticides are used to kill insects and other pests that eat and destroy crops. This pesticides are designed to be toxic to living things and kill smaller creatures. While they won’t kill a human, prolonged exposure to any toxin is harmful and best to be avoided. The main aspect of organic food is it is pesticide free.
70% pass rate. For legal reasons a company is allowed to label their food as organic as long as 70 percent of the production falls under the organic guidelines. This means the food can still be exposed to pesticides, synthetic fertilisers and hormones.
Environment. Organic produce hasn’t been grown with the use of pesticides and synthetic fertilisers used in commercial farming which have detrimental effects on the environment. With irrigation and weather these substances can trickle into waterways and end up in lakes, rivers and the ocean.
