Should I install tiled flooring?
My wife and I cant cant agree on this
Durable. Tiles, especially porcelain, are one of the most durable materials used for flooring. It takes a lot of force to chip or crack a tile that has been installed correctly.
pro
Choice. You have a variety of materials to use such as porcelain, terracotta, stone and glass. Amongst these choices are even more types to really get the look you are after. Tiles cannot be beaten for variety.
pro
Not designed for comfort. Tiles should be used in wet and dirty areas such as kitchens, laundries and bathrooms. Their durability is perfect for these areas but uncomfortable for living areas and bedrooms.
con
Hard to remove. Tiles are strong but not invulnerable. If you chip, scratch or break one it will have to be replaced which means it will have to be removed. Tiles installed correctly are extremely difficult to remove without damaging surrounding tiles. Keep that in mind.
con
Expensive. Tiles themselves aren’t cheap and since you would most likely need an installer you can add labour on top of that.
con
Easy to maintain. Besides cleaning tiles don’t need much maintenance. Porcelain doesn’t stain and stone is sealed to prevent staining. Their durability helps prevent scratching and breaking as well.
pro
Difficult installation. You can try to install them yourself but tiling is very complicated and the best advice would be get a professional installer.
