Patients are not forced to use life prolonging machines. The debate is whether or doctors should actively end a patients life. A doctor cannot force life prolonging methods onto patients against their wishes.

The patient should determine treatment.  It is wrong to allow family, friends and even doctors to contradict the wishes of a patient if the patient is of a sound mind. If we can choose how we live we can choose how we die.

It will lead to the mistrust of doctors. The doctors primary role is a healer and preserver of life. If they become administers of death as well you will always have the thought in you mind that you don’t know their true intentions. Trust is very important in the doctor patient relationship.

There is no such thing as a life not worth living. Death should always be the last option, life is a miracle of nature and a miracle of the universe. Misery, sorrow and suffering should be braced out of respect for life. To quote Dylan Thomas: “Don’t go gentle into that good night, rage, rage against the dying of the light…”

The elite will determine who lives and dies. If euthanasia is legal rules and regulations will have to be put in place to give medical officials guidelines. This would mean the criteria of life and death fall into the hands of those in power. Throughout history this system has lead to abuse and oppression.

There is no history of abuse. Previous systems that have had assisted suicide show that abuse need not be of concern. If we look at the Netherlands since 2002 we see that the system has been efficient and beneficial with no issues arising.
