Arguments for whaling
What are the arguments for and against whaling?
Whales are intelligent. It is inhumane because whales aren’t much less intelligent than humans and with our regard for animals in modern day we should be doing more to help our animal brethren.
con
Today’s whaling is ecologically responsible. Hunting pressure of whaling stocks no longer exist and so whalers have maintaining sustainable stocks in their best interest. Today sparing a whale allows another day for a whale to reproduce where in the past a rival whaling fleet could take the find.

It is a step backwards in regards to animal rights. Over the last century we have made great strides in improving the way our fellow living creatures are being treated. You can judge people by how they treat animals and if we allow hunting of whales to continue it shows that our lust for certain items outweighs our compassion and humanity.
con
Whaling harms an already fragile ecosystem. The oceans are already under threat from human activity and environmental changes. Reducing the population of one of the keys in the food chain is going to exacerbate the problem.
con
There is no longer risk of overhunting, there is incentive now due to regulations for whaling ships to spare a whale so ‘they can catch it another day’. Before these regulations you had to kill whatever you found to eliminate a rivals chances of finding it.
pro
Population control. The main advantage of whaling is to keep the balance of the oceans ecosystem. We have been whaling for centuries now and if we stop we take out a vital measure to keep whales population under control
