Are weatherboard houses good?
I prefer brick personally but a lot of people like weatherboard homes, why is that?
Flammable. Timber is flammable in the unfortunate case of a fire the weatherboards will acts as kindling.
con
Termites. Termites feed off wood and make no exception when it comes to weatherboards.
con
Cool down quickly. Insulation isn’t always a good thing, in warmer climates it makes it harder for your home to cool down. When a hot day is over and the cool night breeze starts blowing a weather board home can be opened up the fans turned on opposed to excessive aircon use.
pro
Withstands ground movement. The timber in the structure is more flexible than other options such as brick. There is always movement and this flexibility is a big plus on the side of weatherboard homes.
pro
Requires a lot of maintenance. Timber is a harsh mistress in the housing game. Constant maintenance is required throughout its lifetime: recoating paint, replacing broken boards, fixing cracks and rot.
con
Easy to renovate. If you ever decide to update or change your home, a weatherboard house wont give you much grief.
